Our Social Ministry Committee supports a variety of issues and concerns beyond our doors here on 83rd Street. For years, we have supported the homeless mission of Trinity Lower Eastside Lutheran Church in Manhattan. In fact, this mission is so important to the members of RSJ, that we have envelopes printed with "Trinity Lower Eastside" to make it easier to donate to this worthwhile cause. Each year, we collect clothing and food items for a battered women's shelter and for others in need. And we do it all to share some of what God's blessed us with to extend God's love to others.
But we do more than simply help local people. Through our efforts, we have helped Habitat for Humanity and Lutheran World Relief for the good these agencies do. We have also contributed to Heifer International. In fact, proceeds from our "Strawberry Festival" this year will go to Heifer.
Under the leadership of our dedicated Social Ministry Committee, we have been operating a Fair Trade "store" during our Sunday morning Coffee Hour and at other social events. To find out about Fair Trade products, please visit LWR.
